SMC Portable Appliance Testing was established in 2012 in Ongar Essex, since then it has grown into the company you see today, we moved to much larger premises near Waltham Abbey in May 2015, the new premises are located at the intersection of the M25 and M11 thus giving us great access to all of London and the home counties.

We have a large client base and inspect and test anything from offices and night clubs in London to dentists and care homes in Essex, and everything in between, we even tested a burger van recently.

Our engineers will arrive in uniform, they are fully trained, DBS checked and carry traceable ID, they mostly work in pairs to enable us to complete the testing quickly as possible with the minimum of distruption, they work quietly and respectfully in the background without interrupting your working day. We are fully accredited members of The PAT Testing Network and follow their strict working standards and code of practice. We also have comprehensive public liability insurance.

Our aim to to provide the best possible service at an affordable price, please take 5 minutes of your time to view the video below to get an idea of what PAT testing is and also how to make sure it being carried out correctly.

Why do I need PAT Testing?
PAT testing should be considered in all risk assessments and is an important part of your Health & Safety Policy, a number of regulations specify that business premises should have regular electrical safety inspections including those listed below:
HSE ELECTRICITY AT WORK REGULATION 1989
HEALTH & SAFETY AT WORK ACT 1974
PROVISION AND USE OF WORK EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS 1998
MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH & SAFETY AT WORK REGULATION 1999
In addition to the above many landlords and insurance companies insist on it.

What needs to be PAT tested?
All portable appliances in the business will need to be examined and tested. This includes general items such as computers, kettles, extension leads, printers, fridges, CD players, lamps, T.V's, toasters, heaters etc, in fact most items with a plug on.

Will I get a certificate?
A full written report bound in a folder showing every item tested together with all the test results is included, any failed items will be listed on a seperate sheet at the back of the report with photos if nessessary, we also issue compliance certificate to be displayed at the premisess for both the inspection and the microwave oven emissions, we will of course email these in PDF format if required.

Be sure when choosing a PAT Testing company they are members of the PAT Testing Trade Association
